Yayasan Harapan Permata Hati Kita, or Yayasan Kita, or YAKITA for short, is a non profit organization committed to be beside you to assist you or your loved one recover from the deep abyss of addiction. Established in 1999 by families of addicts who won the long battle against addiction, we truly understand what you are going through. We have learnt from our own experience how difficult it is to battle addiction in the home, and how painful it is to watch addiction grow and wreck the family life and any sense of normalcy.
We created YAKITA because we knew we did not want to lose to addiction. We did not want to lose our loved ones to drugs and addiction. We knew there was a way out. YAKITA was that vision. We understood from our own experience that detoxification alone for our children was not enough. We learnt that we also had to learn if we are to help our children get better. It is very much like having a family member with a chronic disease - once we understand the disease, we were more able to help and support them in the process towards healthier lives.
Our children, were those who needed a strong program, they need tools to maintain their recovery through aftercare programs. They needed education, knowledge and insight to their own problems. They needed to understand the dangers related to addiction and drug using life. They needed to see what life is all about. They needed to understand the realities of life. They need to learn about themselves, learn to help themselves, and ultimately help others which would help them be more mature and less selfish. We found that when addiction progresses, and the more selfish they became. We also found that the more they help others, the more it motivated them to stay clean. Hence the saying, you can only keep the blessings that you have, by giving it away.
Hence YAKITA is more than just a drug recovery program. It is a community that also helps with prevention education, peer counseling programs, harm reduction outreach, training various groups of people who are interested to know more about addiction and related health areas, from drug abuse, reproductive health, psychology, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and many others.
We have trained numerous groups from students, drug counselors, school teachers, parent communities, health communities, IDUs, inmates, prison staff, police, customs and many others from both government bodies and NGOs. We work both nationally and internationally. In all these programs, recovering addicts also take active part as part of their training, aside from continuing to work on their own recovery. We encourage them to transform from being part of the problem to becoming part of the solution.
